This position will directly supervise a growing team of attorneys and other staff who are engaged in the legal research and analysis of climate accountability theories and strategies.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Center for Climate Integrity (CCI) seeks an experienced attorney to manage our work to develop new and innovative legal strategies seeking to hold oil and gas corporations accountable for deceiving the public about climate change, as well as support ongoing litigation. 

The Managing Attorney will oversee and execute the identification, research and development of new case theories. This position will also provide support, guidance, mentorship, and strategic thought partnership for staff attorneys and other members of the team who are engaged in the legal and factual research and analysis of climate accountability theories and strategies. Reporting to CCI’s Vice President of Legal, this position will directly supervise 2-3 staff attorneys and other staff as appropriate. 

The Center for Climate Integrity is an all-remote organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage research and development of legal theories relevant to climate liability litigation;
  • Coordinate and integrate this work with the other teams at CCI;
  • Oversee the preparation of amicus curiae briefs in climate liability cases;
  • Monitor ongoing climate liability litigation and the broader legal landscape and respond to legal inquiries; 
  • Supervise, mentor, and oversee the professional  development of 2-3 staff attorneys;
  • Organize and socialize the development of programs/events that educate the legal community on the need for climate accountability; and
  • Represent CCI at external events, conferences, and in media interviews.

Requirements:

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school;
  • 10-15 years professional experience in mass tort, toxic tort, product liability and/or consumer fraud litigation;
  • Experience managing a litigation team;
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to manage and work with multiple staff and stakeholders across a remote organization;
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills; and
  • A flexible approach to work, with a willingness to travel, as needed.

CCI is an all-remote organization, and candidates will need to arrange for some of their own infrastructure and tools.  A laptop computer will be provided, but the selected candidate will be required to have access to:

Compensation and Benefits
CCI salaries are based on the organization’s job classification system.  The classification system consists of salary ranges which are updated annually based on market data.
