New Jersey

vs. Exxon Mobil et al.

Share

New Jersey is suing major oil and gas companies — ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, Phillips 66, and ConocoPhillips — and the American Petroleum Institute to hold them accountable for the damages that their climate deception is causing to communities across the state.

The lawsuit seeks to recover a range of costs for damages to natural resources, critical infrastructure, and more. It’s also asking the court to order the Big Oil defendants to stop their deceptive practices and disgorge all profits made through their illegal behavior.

“Based on their own research, these companies understood decades ago that their products were causing climate change and would have devastating environmental impacts down the road … It’s long overdue that the facts be aired in a New Jersey court, and the perpetrators of the disinformation campaign pay for the harms they’ve caused.”
