Rep. Samba Baldeh is a native of the west African nation The Gambia and immigrated to the United States over 20 years ago. Shortly after, he moved to Madison and graduated from College, where he studied Information Technology. He was a Software Engineer and an Information Technology Project Manager at American Family Insurance, where he was employed for 20 years. Baldeh was elected alder on the City of Madison Common Council in 2015. As alder, he prioritized public safety, community policing, access to libraries. Following his first term in office, he was elected Council President.

In 2020, Baldeh was elected State Representative for the 48th Assembly District (Madison’s north and far east side). He is the first Muslim and first born African to serve in the state legislature. In his first term Baldeh was selected to serve on the Assembly Rules Committee, Small Business Development, Science and Information Technology and Licensing and Regulation. Baldeh was recently received a 100% score as a Conservation Champion by the Wisconsin Conservation Voters.
