MONTPELIER, VT - Vermont Attorney General T.J. Donovan today announced a new consumer protection lawsuit against Exxon, Shell, and other major oil and gas companies for “numerous deceptive acts and unfair practices in connection with their marketing, distribution, and sale of gasoline and other fossil fuel products to consumers within the State.”
Richard Wiles, executive director of the Center for Climate Integrity, released the following statement:
“Big Oil companies spent decades lying to the public about the catastrophic harm they knew their products would cause — it’s time they are held accountable. Communities are tired of paying the price for the fossil fuel industry’s climate deception, and it’s only right that they turn to the courts for justice. The growing wave of climate accountability lawsuits shows that big oil and gas companies can no longer lie to the American public without consequences.”
