Representative David Hackney was first elected in 2020 to represent the 11th Legislative District in the Washington House of Representatives, which includes the Georgetown and South Park neighborhoods of Seattle, Tukwila, and parts of Renton, Kent, and unincorporated King County. He serves on the Capital Budget (vice chair), Public Safety, and Transportation Committees. Representative Hackney received his JD from Harvard Law School and worked as an attorney for 25 years, including 11 years as a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice. He taught trial advocacy at the United Nations Mission in Kosovo and worked at The Hague on a legal team that prosecuted war crimes. After the U.N., Hackney worked for The Nature Conservancy and later, in 2019, was appointed to the Washington State Human Rights Commission by Gov. Jay Inslee. Representative Hackney also proudly served on the boards of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility and Tabor 100 in 2018 and 2019.
