State Representative

St. Claire County, Indiana

Born and raised in East St. Louis, LaToya is an advocate in the State Capitol, for the many issues faced by residents of the metro east area. She has sponsored and co-sponsored bills on issues focused on social justice, equity, and opportunity, specifically centered around job creation, economic growth, education funding, minimum wage, reproductive health, maternal and infant mortality and access to healthcare. As a legislator and member of the House Budget team, she has created funding opportunities for various entities within the 114th District that will promote the uplifting of the communities that she represents. In the 102nd General Assembly she was appointed into leadership by Speaker of the House, Emanuel “Chris” Welch, as Majority Conference Chair. LaToya will, also, continue her advocacy for healthcare for all as the Chairperson of the Healthcare Availability and Access Committee.


Greenwood attended Michigan State University where she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Greenwood’s passion and devotion to her community inspired her to come back to East. St. Louis and make a difference as a public servant. She furthered her education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she received her master’s degree in Public Administration and Policy. 


Her mission as a state legislator is to build stronger community in her district through improving the access to healthcare for all Illinoisans, providing quality and equitable education for all children, and ensuring public safety for residents. 


She is a mother of one son, Nicolas, who attends Loyola University and LaToya resides in East St. Louis.
