Maura Hirschauer (D-49) is a former educator, community leader, and activist and was elected to the IL legislature in 2020. She is a passionate commonsense gun safety advocate and a founding member of Kane and Kendall County Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety in America where she served as legislative lead. Maura served as the President of a community-based philanthropic organization, The Batavia Mothers’ Club Foundation, for which she collaborated with community leaders to improve the quality of life for children and families in the Fox River Valley. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader for six years. Maura is a former teacher, with comprehensive experience teaching in early childhood, elementary, and adult ESL classrooms. Her passion for creating a better world for children includes support of environmental justice issues. She voted for Illinois’ Climate & Equitable Jobs Act, a nation-leading piece of environmental legislation that moves the state forward in carbon-free energy production while holding pollutors responsible for their emissions. She earned her B.A. in English from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and pursued graduate studies in Elementary Education at the University of Colorado at Denver.
