Michael is a fourth-generation Washington native on one side, and fifth-generation Washingtonian on the other side.
Moving to Bellingham over 20 years ago to raise a family, Michael soon became involved in his community through volunteer work, neighborhood associations, local non-profit organizations, environmental groups, and boards and commissions of the City of Bellingham.
First elected to the Bellingham City Council in 2010, Michael is now in his fourth term. He has proven himself to be an active and engaged leader who is not afraid to raise difficult questions nor shy away from complex issues such as climate change and affordable housing. His sincerity and earnestness have earned the trust of people on many sides of the issues, and the support of prominent local leaders and organizations.
A recent empty-nester who has worked as a scientific researcher, a health professional, a paralegal, and all-around handyman, Michael loves nothing more than to spend time with family and friends on hikes in the hills and trails of Whatcom County and beyond.
