Rachel Hunt has been an attorney since 1994. She worked in domestic law helping families using tools like mediation for fifteen years. When her children were small she decided to keep her license but focus her energy full time on parenting. She was active in CMS PTA and SLT school volunteer jobs for ten years. She was also active in community organizations at this time chairing the educational committee of the League of Women Voters of Charlotte Mecklenburg and the Board of Lillian’s List, her son’s Charter School, Generation Nation, the NC Foundation for Public School Children Board.
Rachel earned a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA in 2014. She owns Hunt For College, L.L.C.
She was elected to the NC House in 2018 for district 103 and reelected in 2020. She was elected to the NC Senate for district 42 in 2022 and serves on the following committees: Agriculture, Energy and Environment, Appropriations General Government and Informational Technology, Judiciary, Pensions, Retirement and Aging.
She has two children. Katia is a Talent Concierge Recruiter for Disney and Jonas is studying mechanical engineering, history and design at NCSU.
Her husband Olav Nilender is retired from working as an ER physician and still does addiction treatment at McCloud centers.
Rachel enjoys hiking with her two 15 year old dogs, reading and travel.
