Minnesota state Sen. Scott Dibble represents District 61, which includes portions of South, Southwest, Downtown, and Bryn Mawr neighborhoods in Minneapolis. He first won a seat in the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2000 and after serving one term was elected to the Senate in 2002, where he serves as the ranking Democratic member on the Transportation Committee. Sen. Dibble has been a staunch advocate for LGBTQIA+ equality, leading the successful fight against a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and acting as chief author on Minnesota’s 2013 marriage equality law prior to the U.S. Supreme Court codifying that right nationwide in Obergefell v. Hodges.
Before serving in the legislature, Sen. Dibble worked as an aide to Minneapolis City Council Member Dore Mead and organized for the passage of the Minnesota Human Rights Act in 1993. A native of New York City, Sen. Dibble lives in the Uptown area of Minneapolis with his husband Richard Leyva.
