Senator Scott Jiu Wo Kawasaki is currently serving his first term as a member of the Alaska State Senate. He was first elected to the State House in 2006, and at the time was the youngest member serving in the Legislature. He has been a member of the Resources Committee, the Education Committee and the Special Committee on Fisheries. In 2018, he ran against the Senate President and went on to win. He currently serves as Chair of the Senate State Affairs and the Joint Armed Services Committee and also serves on the Senate Resources Committees and the Legislative Budget and Audit Committee.
Prior to state office he ran for the Fairbanks City Council and was the youngest candidate ever elected, and went on to serve for six years. Senator Kawasaki earned a BS in biomedicine at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In college, he chartered the first national collegiate fraternity in Alaska, Sigma Phi Epsilon and was involved in leadership and internship programs statewide.
Senator Kawasaki enjoys fishing, hiking, camping and all that the Alaska outdoors has to offer in the summer. Scott also enjoys traveling during the coldest parts of the winter.
